Meta’s Muse Agent Has Wall Street Divided on Its AI Potential
On Tuesday, Meta Platforms, the AI-powered digital advertising company, saw its stock jump 11.43% to $741.25 as investors responded to strong early demand for its new Muse assistant.
Meta launched Muse two weeks ago as an autonomous assistant capable of sending emails, booking travel, and selling cars on users' behalf, tapping into growing consumer demand for practical AI agents.
Wells Fargo analyst Ken Gawrelski raised his price target on Meta to $796 from $640, betting that heavy usage will drive many users toward paid subscriptions as the tool gains traction.
Trading volume surged to 48.3 million shares, about 157% above the three-month average, while Muse surpassed OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude as the top free app on Apple's US App Store.
Ahead of the Meta Connect annual event this week, investors are watching for further AI progress, though industry concerns persist that autonomous agents could threaten human oversight and safety.
