Moriarty to Get the Spotlight in New Freemantle Series
Chris Cornwell and Oliver Lansley will write the series, which reimagines Moriarty as a criminal psychology professor and police consultant.
Fremantle and British production firm Archery Pictures officially announced development of 'Moriarty,' a modern reinvention of the crime procedural reimagining Sherlock Holmes' arch-nemesis as a criminal psychology professor at Durham University.
Moriarty leads a secret double life as a criminal mastermind; when a rival gang threatens his underground empire, he reluctantly joins the police as a consultant, concealing his true identity while dismantling his enemies.
Writers Chris Cornwell and Oliver Lansley are attached to script the drama, which Fremantle describes as a 'modern reinvention of the crime procedural' bringing fresh perspective to the Sherlock Holmes universe.
Paired with Detective Imogen Burrows, a stoic Yorkshire detective, Moriarty forms a fearsome team, though he soon realizes her increasingly perceptive suspicions pose a greater threat than the rival criminal faction he's dismantling.
With Arthur Conan Doyle's works in the public domain since January 2023, this spin-off joins numerous adaptations; Fremantle handles global sales while no casting or network has been finalized for the series.
