More than 70,000 People Left Toronto, Marking the City's First-Ever Negative Population Growth.

The latest data from Statistics Canada shows that Toronto's population is experiencing negative growth. From July 2024 to July 2025, the population of the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area (CMA, which includes the City of Toronto and other municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area) decreased by 992. This is only the second annual population decrease since 2001, the other being during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
