MoonPay to acquire SEC-registered North Capital in $60 million all-stock deal
The all-stock deal adds North Capital’s regulated broker-dealer and trading infrastructure as MoonPay expands beyond crypto payments.
On Wednesday, cryptocurrency payments company MoonPay announced a definitive merger agreement to acquire North Capital Investment Technology, Inc. to support its tokenization efforts.
This acquisition is the latest in MoonPay's buying spree this year as the company expands beyond crypto payments, following earlier purchases of Sodot, DFlow, and Entendre.
Sources familiar with the matter told CoinDesk the all-stock deal is worth over $60 million; North Capital's platform has supported more than $8.7 billion in volume and offers more than 1,250 approved assets.
MoonPay CEO and founder Ivan Soto-Wright said the company is "building the regulatory foundation to support mass adoption of tokenized real-world assets" to connect different parts of the financial system.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, as North Capital's operating businesses include SEC-registered broker-dealers, a transfer agent, and an investment adviser.
