Montreal’s Trudeau airport braces for more traffic chaos ahead of spring break
Montreal-Trudeau expects about 58,000 daily passengers during spring break amid reduced parking and ongoing construction delaying infrastructure upgrades.
- On Feb. 27, 2026, Montreal-Trudeau International Airport warned travelers of traffic delays during spring break amid a major revamp and parking garage demolition.
- Because the authority delayed renovations until passenger numbers recovered after the COVID-19 pandemic, it secured a $1-billion loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank to finance construction.
- Some 58,000 passengers are expected per day, and the airport added two alternative pickup and drop-off areas with shuttle service, urging travellers to reserve parking and arrive at least three hours early.
- Passengers have at times hauled their suitcases on foot along the roadway to avoid missing flights, while the Montréal–Trudeau International Airport authority manages major construction and 24-hour operations.
- As part of a 10-year plan, the airport will open permanent drop-off zones by 2028 with triple the current capacity and build a new terminal connection to a light-rail station expected operational by 2027.
