Holly Hill suffered severe esophageal injury from industrial cleaner in a margarita and endured a long medical battle before dying from related complications, her family said.
- Last Thursday, Holly Hill, a third-grade teacher and mother of three, died from complications after drinking a margarita contaminated with industrial cleaner on Valentine's Day 2023 at Hacienda Las Margaritas Bar & Grill in Elgin.
- At Hacienda Las Margaritas Bar & Grill in Elgin, Hill took a sip of a margarita and immediately said her mouth was 'on fire', then vomited and rinsed her mouth, her mother Kelly Hunter said.
- Doctors treating Holly Hill said the injury caused severe chemical burns that left a hole in her esophagus, and an Oct. 17 procedure showed the wound had not healed.
- Following Hill's death, the Elgin Police Department and Comanche County District Attorney contacted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, which will open an inquiry, acting police chief Ralph Parsons said.
- Beloved in her community, Holly Hill continued teaching during her long recovery years ago, as Superintendent Nate Meraz called the news 'unimaginable' and praised her dedication.
