Halpin’s go-ahead homer flips Game 3 as Guardians beat Rays 3-2 for 2-1 AL Championship Series lead
On Thursday, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Game 3, taking a 2-1 lead in the American League Championship Series behind Petey Halpin's two-run home run.
Nathaniel Lowe's RBI double opened the scoring for the Guardians in the second inning; the Rays answered with Chandler Simpson's two-run triple in the fourth.
Starting pitcher Gavin Williams struck out nine over five innings while the bullpen allowed just one hit across the final four innings. Rays batters whiffed 13 times.
Game 4 is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. ET, with Saturday's Game 5 also in Cleveland, giving the Guardians a chance to advance to the World Series.
