WASHINGTON STATE, JUL 10 – Washington will receive over $16 million from a $720 million nationwide opioid settlement with eight drug companies to fund prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.
- On July 10, 2025, Attorney General Keith Ellison announced that settlements with eight opioid drug manufacturers will provide Minnesota with up to $9,370,000.
- These settlements follow a December 2021 agreement allocating 75% of funds to local governments and 25% to the state for opioid response efforts.
- The eight companies are collectively obligated to provide approximately $633 million to municipalities in Minnesota, with most prohibited from marketing opioids or selling pills containing more than 40mg of oxycodone.
- Indivior has committed to halting the production and sale of opioid medications for a minimum of ten years, while still being permitted to distribute drugs intended to treat opioid use disorder.
- Ellison acknowledged that financial compensation cannot fully repair the extensive damage caused but committed to directing the settlement funds toward treatment, recovery, and prevention initiatives throughout Minnesota.
