Mississauga man facing 134 charges after almost 60 kittens rescued in animal cruelty investigation
Police rescued 57 kittens and eight adult cats after reports they were sold in distressing conditions and later died from injuries.
On April 23, Peel Regional Police arrested 38-year-old Mississauga resident Qiang Yu, charging him with 134 counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Animal Welfare Services alerted police on April 1 to reports of kittens being sold in "distressing conditions" and dying from injuries after arriving at their new homes.
During the search warrant execution on April 23, officers from the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and AWS rescued 57 kittens and eight adult cats from the property.
Yu remains in custody pending a bail hearing, while the rescued animals are in the care of a Mississauga animal shelter awaiting judicial outcome.
