Texas Couple Found Dead in New Mexico
Charles and Linda Lightfoot were found dead in a rural New Mexico area after being missing since Thanksgiving; hypothermia is the suspected cause, officials said.
- On Tuesday, the Carson County Sheriff's Office said Linda Lightfoot, 81, and Charles "Gary" Lightfoot, 82, were found dead in Quay County, New Mexico after being reported missing from Texas on Thanksgiving.
- Last seen leaving Panhandle, Texas, on Nov. 27, the Lightfoots left after visiting friends around 3 p.m. on Friday and a Silver Alert was issued last week.
- Investigators said the 2024 silver Toyota Camry pinged a cell tower near Tucumcari, New Mexico on Friday, with camera sightings in Groom, Texas and Santa Rosa, New Mexico, but an air search found nothing.
- Authorities had been worried because neither had a cellphone and Gary was oxygen dependent, and the Carson County Sheriff's Office said, `We would like to thank the public and all agencies involved.`
- The discovery, which follows last week's Silver Alert and air searches, closes a case that began when the couple were last seen about two hours from the New Mexico border.
