Minnesota Wild games picked up by DIRECTV
The multi-year deal restores access for fans and Minnesota bars and restaurants after more than three weeks of season disruptions.
On Saturday, the NHL and DIRECTV announced a multi-year distribution agreement covering the Minnesota Wild, Columbus Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes, and St. Louis Blues.
More than three weeks into the season, the deal resolves access challenges after teams shifted to team-produced broadcasts, leaving bars and restaurants without viewing options.
NHL chief media officer David Proper stated, "Making it easy for fans to follow their teams is at the heart of what we do." Wild games air on channel 668 for streaming, 668-1 on satellite, and 1745/745 on U-verse.
DIRECTV now holds regional or local rights to air games for 76 of the 81 U.S.-based NHL, NBA, and MLB franchises, including defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.
A distribution agreement with Comcast has not yet been reached, leaving some subscribers and establishments facing continued limited viewing options for team-produced broadcasts.
