Popular Channel Shuts Down After 6 Years on Air as Part of New TV Guide Shake-Up
Sky said the merger will put all family films and animated titles on one channel, while the animation service returns only during school holidays.
On April 30, Sky permanently closed the Sky Animation HD channel, merging its programming into Sky Cinema Family on channel 304 to consolidate animated and live-action family content.
Launched in 2018 and made permanent in 2020, Sky Cinema Animation served as a dedicated hub for animated adventures before the broadcaster scrapped the service as part of a broader TV guide shake-up.
Sky told Newsquest the move intends to make navigation simpler for customers, ensuring everything previously available on Sky Cinema Animation remains accessible on the unified Sky Cinema Family channel.
Although permanently closed, Sky will temporarily revive the Animation branding during school holidays from July 24 to August 30 and October 23 to November 1 to support families.
The closure is part of a larger TV guide shake-up affecting dozens of other Sky channels as the platform reorganizes its satellite and streaming lineups for subscribers.
