At least 80 militants surrendered weapons including rifles and explosives, joining an amnesty program supported by military and state government collaboration, officials said.

  • On Friday, no fewer than 80 militants operating in the Calabar creeks and parts of Akpabuyo Local Government Area voluntarily surrendered arms and ammunition at the Atimbo Rear Area of Operation OKWOK.
  • Amid sustained operations, security agencies say cooperation with the Cross River State Government and other security agencies prompted the voluntary surrender, and the Nigerian Army commended the state's commitment to peace.
  • A detailed inventory shows three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action guns, one Mark 4, one G3 rifle, 12 single-barrel guns, 10 AK-47 magazines, one C4 explosive charge, three speedboats, four boat engines, 19 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, and 84 DENGUN cartridges.
  • Upon completion of the amnesty process, the militants were handed to the Rapid Response Team from the Cross River State Government and are undergoing Department of State Services profiling at Muka Sam Hotel, Ikot Ansa, Calabar.
  • ThankGod Ebikontei, popularly known as Ayibanuagha, led the first camp that presented 39 fighters, while Isaac's group, also called 'Akpokolo Marine Forces' or 'Border Boys,' presented 41 fighters.
