For the second day in a row, the refugee registration center in Ter Apel is overcrowded. As a result, dozens of asylum seekers camped on the lawn in front of the registration center until late Thursday evening.
With large suitcases, asylum seekers walk hopefully towards the entrance of the registration center, but for most people, there is no room.
Not every asylum seeker who reports to the asylum seekers' centre in Ter Apel can be given a place there. It is too crowded inside, and so only vulnerable asylum seekers are given priority. It is not the first time the reception centre has resorted to this drastic measure. Reporter Hein Keijser speaks with asylum correspondent Emile Kossen of De Telegraaf and is present in Ter Apel.
Aid organization MiGreat fears rough sleeping, now that not every new asylum seeker who reports to the registration center in Ter Apel actually receives a place. The reception centers are currently too crowded, as a result of which reception agency COA has introduced a new admission policy.
