Microsoft's New Surface Laptop and Surface Pro Upgrade to Snapdragon X2 and Start at $1,499
Microsoft says the new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro deliver up to 53% faster graphics and 15.5 hours of battery life.
On Tuesday, Microsoft released the Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 chips, starting at $1,599 and $1,499 respectively.
These next-gen Copilot+ PCs promise up to 53 percent faster graphics, with Microsoft corporate VP of Surface Andrew Hill emphasizing the company prioritized reliability and battery life during development.
While introducing haptic trackpad support and new Jade and Dune color options, the Surface Laptop 8 faces criticism for starting with just 256 GB of storage—half the previous generation.
Microsoft is offering promotional incentives: Surface Pro 12 buyers this month receive a free Surface Pro 13-inch Keyboard, while Surface Laptop 8 purchasers get a free Surface Arc Mouse through June 30.
These remain the most affordable options in Microsoft's current lineup; the company plans to release the more powerful Surface Laptop Ultra later this year as it expands consumer Windows on Arm devices.
