Windows 11 25H2 Update Hits Its Last Stop Before Release to the General Public
The 25H2 update enables features delivered in prior versions, removes deprecated tools, and enhances IT admin control over preinstalled apps, preparing for the upcoming public release.
- The Windows Insider team announced that Windows 11 25H2 has entered Release Preview, the last step before wider distribution expected later this year, and Insiders can get it now via Windows Update.
- Microsoft is delivering 25H2 as an enablement package that activates features already on users' PCs, using a shared servicing branch with Windows 11 24H2, so updating requires only a single restart.
- Microsoft confirmed removals including PowerShell two and Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line while offering ISOs next week on the Insider ISO page and the seeker experience for installation.
- Devices upgraded to 25H2 will continue to receive monthly servicing updates and security servicing, while users can delay installation using Windows Update's Pause updates control, Microsoft said.
- With testing underway, Microsoft says general availability is expected later this year and is soliciting feedback from consumer and business users ahead of the wider rollout.
