Microsoft Lays Off Hundreds of WA Workers, Weeks After Companywide Cuts
Microsoft laid off more than 300 employees in Redmond, Washington, effective August 1, 2025, weeks after prior companywide cuts in May.
These layoffs follow a 3% reduction announced in May, when the company cut around 6,000 jobs amid its ongoing workforce restructuring.
Microsoft cited a dynamic marketplace requiring organizational changes to increase agility, reduce management layers, and prioritize AI-focused roles.
The company employed about 228,000 full-time staff as of June 2024, with 55% in the U.S., and reported $25.8 billion profit in Q1 2025; a spokesperson called layoffs not performance-based.
These reductions underscore Microsoft’s effort to streamline operations and respond to AI-driven market shifts, suggesting continued workforce adjustments are likely.
