Windows 11 25H2 Is Mostly 24H2 with Bits Bolted on, Removed
Windows 11 25H2 focuses on security enhancements but has four known bugs affecting DRM playback, SMB v1 file sharing, ARM64 tool use, and update installations, Microsoft said.
- As of September 30, Microsoft released Windows 11 version 25H2 and began seeding it to eligible devices, noting at least four known issues in the rollout.
- The company says the update is a lightweight enablement change that flips on features from Windows 11 version 24H2 and removes legacy components like PowerShell 2.0 and WMIC.
- The known issues include several technical bugs affecting playback and networking, such as DRM-protected content playback errors via Enhanced Video Renderer, SMB v1 and NetBIOS over TCP/IP failures, and Media Creation Tool errors on ARM64 PCs with ERROR_BAD_PATHNAME in WUSA installs.
- Microsoft can delay offers to devices with detected problems and recommends toggling the 'Get the latest updates as soon as they're available' Windows Update setting; Windows Server Update Services release arrives on October 14.
- Most home users need not rush because the issues are unlikely to affect typical consumer setups, and upgrading Windows 11 version 25H2 provides support for two years plus admin tools and Wi‑Fi 7.
