Microsoft Build 2026 Kicks Off Today: Live Updates on Copilot AI and Dev Tools
Nadella is expected to focus on agentic AI, GitHub Copilot, and new Windows and Office 365 updates during the two-and-a-half-hour keynote.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella opened the annual Microsoft Build conference at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, emphasizing a strategic pivot toward 'agentic AI' and autonomous agents.
Microsoft plans to evolve Copilot into 'async coworkers that can execute long-running tasks across key domains,' Nadella stated last week, marking a departure from simple chatbots toward autonomous agents that take proactive actions.
The 15-inch Surface Laptop Ultra, powered by the new Nvidia RTX Spark system-on-chip, supports these agents with on-device AI processing. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called it 'reinventing the personal computer.'
Alongside the hardware, Microsoft introduced Project Soltera, an Android-based software platform for managing agents, and Microsoft Scout, an 'always on' assistant designed to help users 'think, plan, and get things done without breaking flow.'
Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott emphasized developers must 'think really quite hard about what does it mean to build trustworthy software' before users grant agents control, while the company teased the Majorana 2 quantum chip targeting 2029.
