Michael Boxall doesn't want end of Loons’ season to be his swan song
Boxall has 298 appearances and says contract talks are ongoing as Minnesota United chases a playoff berth.
On Saturday, MNUFC plays at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, battling for a Western Conference playoff spot while sitting within five points of Colorado for the final position.
Captain Michael Boxall nears 300 appearances for the Loons, though the 38-year-old center back faces an uncertain future with his contract expiring at season's end.
Playing through an "essentially a stress fracture" to his adductor, Boxall has been limited to 21 matches this year, his fewest in five seasons, though he is now recovered.
Boxall leads the team with 298 appearances, nearly 100 more than midfielder Wil Trapp, and the Pioneer Press reports the club is interested in retaining him despite ongoing negotiations.
"It is like a playoff game," Boxall added, while Knowles emphasized the team does not control its own destiny, requiring consistent victories to extend their season.
