Mexico arrests suspected gang leader accused of ordering mayor's killing
The alleged leader of a criminal cell linked to Mexico's powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel has been arrested for ordering the assassination of a mayor in Michoacan state, Security Minister Omar Garcia said in a post on X on Thursday.
During a joint operation, staff of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) and Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) arrested Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, El R1, named as the intellectual author of the murder of the municipal president of Uruapan, Michoacán, Carlos Manzo, and leader of one of the most violent cells of the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel.
