Meticulously restored steam engine rolls into Hampshire station after 14 years' work
WITH a puff of steam, a shrill whistle, and a rhythmic chug, the newly-restored SR Merchant Navy class locomotive proved that even after 84 years she can still turn heads.
A 1940s Canadian Pacific steam locomotive that carried troops and supplies to the south coast of England during World War II has returned to service. On board were volunteers involved in the 14-year restoration and relatives of those who built the colossus itself. The train left Alresford for nearby Alton in southeast England. The ride marked the completion of a restoration project that began in 2011.
