Meta expands generative AI tools with Muse Image rollout
The model can edit photos and generate ads, and Meta says it ranks second on Arena.ai’s image leaderboard behind OpenAI’s GPT Image 2.
- On Tuesday, Meta Platforms released Muse Image, a new artificial intelligence model for creating images integrated into Meta AI and WhatsApp. The tool marks the company's push to attract creators and advertisers to its offerings.
- Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang led the development of Muse Image, the second major release from Meta Superintelligence Labs following April's Muse Spark. The model aims to help Meta compete with rivals like OpenAI and Alphabet in the AI race.
- Muse Image powers more than 30 new AI effects for Instagram Stories and enables image generation in WhatsApp direct chats. Users can edit images via sketches or text prompts, with basic access free and advanced capabilities available through Meta subscription plans.
- Advertisers will soon access the model to generate marketing materials through the AI-powered Advantage Plus service. Meta plans to expand Muse Image to Facebook and Messenger in the coming months.
- Internal benchmarks show Muse Image trailing OpenAI's GPT Image but outperforming the Nano Banana model in editing tasks. Meta is also developing a video generation model called Muse Video for future release.
