Met Police assessing evidence on donations to Robert Jenrick’s Tory leadership campaign

The Metropolitan Police Service is assessing evidence regarding donations to Robert Jenrick's 2024 Conservative leadership campaign following a referral from the Electoral Commission on January 6, 2026. The Commission's own investigation is paused pending the police review.
Jenrick faces allegations that £37,500 of a £100,000 donation from UK-registered Spott Fitness Limited originated from US businessman Gary Klopfenstein. UK electoral law prohibits foreign companies or individuals from donating to political parties.

The Conservative Party reported Jenrick to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, alleging a breach of House of Commons rules. Jenrick, who defected to Reform UK, denies knowing the source and maintains he complied with electoral laws.
Labour Party chair Anna Turley stated the news "calls into question whether Jenrick has any respect for the integrity of our politics." The Met Police review remains ongoing with no further comments from the force.
