Met Office issues new weather warning for wind - as two men killed by falling trees
The warning follows gusts up to 84mph that left 838,700 homes without power and caused two deaths, officials said.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, the Met Office maintained yellow weather warnings for wind across parts of the UK as the nation continued recovery from Storm Boelo and Storm Austen.
Storm Boelo battered the UK over the weekend with gusts reaching 84mph, resulting in two fatalities on Sunday when falling trees struck victims in Dumfries and Galloway and Mill Hill, north London.
The Energy Networks Association reported that power cuts impacted 838,700 properties across Britain during the storms, with 39,000 customers still without electricity on Monday morning.
Ofgem guidelines allow affected households to claim compensation for prolonged power outages, with maximum payments reaching £2,235 depending on storm category and supply-loss duration.
Conditions are expected to stabilize from mid-week as high pressure builds on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, bringing drier weather and lighter winds, the Met Office said.
