Woman dies in sea off Isle of Wight - as search suspended for man in Scotland
Emergency crews launched a major search after a large wave swept the woman into the sea, and her dog survived, police said.
On Monday, a woman in her 50s died after being swept into the sea by a wave while walking her dog along the Sandown Bay seafront on the Isle of Wight.
Storm Boelo brought severe winds and heavy rain across the UK, while a flood alert warned of high tides and large waves threatening the Isle of Wight coastline.
Emergency crews including police, paramedics, Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat, and a helicopter launched a major search, recovering her body from the water south of Sandown Pier shortly after midday.
The Isle of Wight Council issued an urgent coastal safety warning, urging residents to exercise extreme caution near sea walls and never turn their backs on the sea.
Community members paid tribute to the woman, with one writing, "So very sad, thinking of her family today, especially her mum and boys!! She was a wonderful person and will be missed," while police and the coroner investigate the circumstances.
