Man who died after being hit by falling tree in Storm Boelo is named
Storm Boelo caused power outages for thousands of people and injured two others with wind gusts reaching 84mph, the Met Office reported.
On Sunday, Logan Botanic Garden curator Richard Baines, 60, died after being struck by a tree during Storm Boelo near his home in Dumfries and Galloway.
Storm Boelo battered Scotland with 80mph gusts, resulting in widespread power outages and travel disruption as two storms hit the region within three days.
David Knott, director of horticulture at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, called Baines an "enthusiastic plantsman" who will be "deeply missed by many" for his significant contributions at Logan.
Energy providers reported on Monday that while more than 50,000 customers were reconnected, around 25,000 households remained without power, and schools closed across the Highlands and Aberdeenshire.
Authorities issued fresh yellow wind warnings for Scotland effective through Tuesday, as Social Justice and Housing Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville warned that weakened trees and buildings remain particularly vulnerable.
