Mesa board stymies owner’s historic home revival

City staff said the changes altered five preservation standards, while the board’s lone dissenter argued the wall and porch were reversible.

A two-bedroom, one-bath house built in 1945 sits in Mesa’s West Second Street Historic District in the downtown and was once the abode of Dr. Ben R. Allen before changing hands over the years.
