Merz woos Trump with invitation to German ancestral village

The chancellor appears to want to appeal to the American president’s German ancestry in order to improve frayed relations.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz invited US President Donald Trump to visit the region of Renania-Palatinate, in western Germany, where his family comes from, during a future visit to the White House in Germany.

Chancellor Merz is trying to get a good wire to the US. In the first week of his term, he calls President Trump twice. "Shortly" he wants to visit him in Washington. But that's not all.

Friedrich Merz reveals that, in the event of a visit to Germany by the US President, he wants to visit the homeland of his ancestors in the Palatinate. The Chancellor also confirmed that he "will visit Donald Trump in Washington shortly."

Merz has already telephoned Trump twice. "He wants to visit him in Washington shortly, but that's not all.

Donald Trump's grandfather comes from the Palatinate city of Kallstadt. If the US President accepts the invitation to visit Germany, Chancellor Merz wants to follow the footsteps of his ancestors with his guest.
