Merz unveils fresh military aid in Kyiv, says Germany won't be intimidated
Germany will provide €1 billion in new military aid and €350 million for energy repairs as Merz pushes joint drone production with Ukraine.
On Sunday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv and announced a $1.5 billion weapons deal to bolster Ukraine's defense against Russian drone attacks and repair energy infrastructure.
Russian forces struck the Northern Bridge over the Dnipro River on Sunday during the visit, damaging infrastructure as Merz toured the National Academy of Sciences, which was hit by a drone strike killing two people.
Merz traveled with German corporate executives to finalize agreements on joint production of combat drones, missiles, and standoff weapons exceeding 1,000 kilometers range against Russian targets.
Condemning the conflict as 'senseless,' Merz stated, 'If Russia is not stopped, its war machine will sooner or later turn against us,' emphasizing support is vital for European security.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the United States is proposing trilateral 'technical level' talks with Russia by the end of October, with Ukraine confirming readiness to participate.
