Melania Trump pitches robots as potential educators for American schoolchildren

On Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump arrived at the White House East Room for the Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit, escorted by a humanoid robot in a historic first.
The robot, built by Sunnyvale, California startup Figure and introduced in October 2025, competes with Boston Dynamics, Elon Musk's Tesla, and companies in China in the humanoid robotics market.
Melania Trump pitched the AI as a "personalized" educator named Plato, offering greetings in 10 languages and providing adaptive instruction to help children develop "deep critical thinking and independent reasoning abilities."
"America, we are obligated to ensure that our children become the most technologically fluent and highly educated generation in the world," the first lady stated, linking AI education to long-term economic superiority.
While the first lady emphasized optimism about AI, she warned that safety remains paramount. Separately, a Los Angeles jury found Meta and YouTube liable for addictive product design targeting young users.
