- Ahead of his Wednesday departure to Paris, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun seeks international support to prevent a security vacuum after United Nations peacekeepers leave south Lebanon at year's end.
- Under United States pressure, the United Nations Security Council voted to end UNIFIL's mandate on December 31, 2026. The mission currently involves around 8,500 peacekeepers from nearly 50 countries deployed in south Lebanon since 1978.
- "We have no choice but negotiations, because the alternative is war, which would be very costly for us," Aoun said. He seeks a security agreement with Israel to end hostilities and establish a temporary force.
- Aoun reiterated that disarming the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah is "neither negotiable nor open to discussion." He told Iran bilateral relations must respect Lebanese sovereignty and reject interference in internal affairs.
- In Paris, Aoun will attend a meeting hosted by President Emmanuel Macron and attended by King Abdullah of Jordan to build support for Lebanese troops. He called on European, American, and Arab partners to share responsibility.
