Suffering since his fall on Friday in the finale of Mûr-de-Bretagne, the Portuguese Joao Almeida was forced to abandon on Sunday, changing the tactical approach of the UAE Emirates team of Tadej Pogacar.
The Portuguese, who had triggered a big fall on Friday but had been able to leave, finally threw the sponge on Sunday.
Portuguese cyclist Joao Almeida has withdrawn from the Tour de France after suffering a broken rib in the seventh stage of the race. The Portuguese rider had been racing for a few days, but the pain was too severe, forcing him to withdraw 80 km before the end of today's ninth stage.
