Although Donald Trump seemed to be wavering about siding with Putin in the war in Ukraine, the American president could no longer bear the pressure that Moscow would not give in to any of its demands, and therefore no progress was made.
The US canceled the Trump-Putin summit after Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Moscow was not willing to negotiate an end to the invasion of Ukraine. Lavrov's intransigence, who claimed that Ukraine was ruled by Nazis, shocked the Americans.
