Customs duties on imports into the USA are becoming more and more burdensome for mechanical engineers in Germany, according to industry figures.
Due to the tariff increases on aluminium and steel, the industry association of mechanical engineers sees the entire U.S. business of many companies at risk. It calls for help from the EU.
After the trade deal with the USA and 15 percent flat-rate tariffs, many EU representatives believe that they got away with it. Not so the mechanical engineers. They pay significantly higher rates due to the surcharges on steel and aluminium - and fear for their existence.


For more and more mechanical engineers, the EU's customs deal with the US is worthless: they are struggling with rising tariffs. The industry association warns against serious consequences.
