Measles outbreak in Quebec rises to 27 cases, mostly in Quebec City area
Health officials say 10 cases were reported last week in Portneuf RCM as measles spread through unvaccinated contacts and exposure sites.
Health officials reported 27 measles cases across Quebec, with the majority concentrated in the Capitale-Nationale region near Quebec City.
Five more cases emerged recently in Portneuf, about 50 kilometres west of Quebec City, after about 10 cases were reported last week alone in the Portneuf RCM.
Exposure sites include Saint-Raymond Hospital, Caisse Desjardins in Pont-Rouge, Jean Coutu pharmacies in Pont-Rouge and Donnacona, and the Maxi grocery store in Donnacona.
Vaccination remains the best protection, available free of charge to everyone in Quebec; infants under 12 months face the highest risk and require doses at 12 and 18 months.
Other cases emerged since early June in Montreal, Laval, and the Laurentians and Lanaudi regions, while Quebec experienced three other measles outbreaks since 2024.
A new measles outbreak is underway in Quebec. A total of 27 cases have been reported, most of them in the Capitale-Nationale region. The most recent case was reported on June 30th.
