Rory McIlroy’s Blistered Toe Might Be the Focus at the PGA Championship, but the Masters Champ Has His Feet Underneath Him
The five-time major winner stopped after three holes and later tried different shoes as he managed a blister on his right pinky toe.
On Tuesday, Rory McIlroy cut his practice round at the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club short after three holes due to discomfort from a persistent blister on his right pinky toe.
The issue first emerged last week during the Truist Championship, where McIlroy played through the pain and reportedly removed the nail on his pinky toe earlier this week to reduce pressure.
After removing his shoe on the 4th tee, McIlroy took a cart to the clubhouse, leaving his Wednesday practice status unclear ahead of Thursday's 8:40 a.m. tee time alongside Jon Rahm and American Jordan Spieth.
McIlroy is reportedly testing new footwear to mitigate the discomfort, appearing in good spirits while attempting to maintain a "relaxed" approach to the tournament week despite the setback.
Chasing a calendar Grand Slam following his recent Masters victory, the six-time major winner hopes to add a seventh title this weekend at the suburban Philadelphia layout.
