Matsuhashi case: Government ordered to pay compensation; Miyata's family acquitted in retrial (Kyodo News)

In the "Matsubashi Incident" in which a man (59 at the time) was stabbed to death in Matsubashi Town, Kumamoto Prefecture (now Uki City) in 1985, the family of the late Hiroki Miyata, who was acquitted of murder in a retrial in 2019, is suing the national and prefectural governments for a total of approximately 84 million yen in damages, claiming that he was detained for a long period of time as a result of an illegal investigation.
