Maryland company recalls Walmart soup kits after listeria concern

Routine testing found a presumptive positive for Listeria monocytogenes, and no illnesses have been reported, the company said.

  • On August 12, Kettle Cuisine LLC voluntarily recalled 3,240 packs of Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kits sold at Walmart stores across 29 states due to potential Listeria contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
  • The Maryland-based manufacturer initiated this voluntary action after routine internal testing returned a presumptive positive result for Listeria, with affected inventory shipped to select Walmart locations between June 30, 2026, and July 7, 2026.
  • Consumers can identify the recalled product by UPC 194346474004 and a use-by date of August 22, 2026; the 14-ounce kits are packaged in wrapped trays and were sold in 29 states including Delaware and New York.
  • Health officials advise buyers to throw the product away or return it to Walmart for a refund; for questions, consumers can reach the Kettle Cuisine Hotline at 617-409-1104, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • While no illnesses have been reported to date, Listeria can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in vulnerable individuals, and the company is continuing an investigation alongside the Food and Drug Administration.
