Marseille official club store looted amid unrest in France
The clubs said their shops suffered severe vandalism and looting as more than 500,000 mainly peaceful protesters took to the streets, officials said.
On Monday, Olympique and Lille confirmed their official stores were looted during weekend protests across France, reporting significant property damage following clashes between demonstrators and police.
Over half a million people demonstrated on Saturday against rising living costs and poor conditions in schools, though small groups set fires and looted businesses in Paris, Lyon, and Marseille.
Olympique officials said the store on the Canebiere suffered "significant damage," forcing a temporary closure, and the club expressed solidarity with partner Puma, which operates the vandalized location.
Marseille authorities imposed a ban on public gatherings across the city on Monday following the violent unrest, with the measure taking effect from midday until 8 p.m. to restore order.
Olympique will inform Fans about reopening the store when conditions allow, as the team sits ninth in The Ligue and prepares to visit Austrian side Sturm Graz on Oct 22 for the Europa League.
