Marcus Stokes' 4 TDs, Jordan Thompson's score power Memphis over UT Martin 45-21
Stokes completed 26 of 32 passes with no turnovers as Memphis scored on its first four touchdown drives and pulled away early.
On Saturday, the Memphis Tigers defeated the UT Martin Skyhawks 45-21 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, with quarterback Marcus Stokes throwing for 258 yards and four touchdowns.
Memphis established early control as Stokes fired three first-half touchdown strikes to Tychaun Chapman, Jaylin Carter, and Jonathan Harding, building a 24-7 halftime lead.
Running back Jordan Thompson rushed for 110 yards and a score, including a 72-yard run that set up backup quarterback Air Noland's first career touchdown pass, a 3-yarder to Joshua Joseph.
Freshman quarterback Tate Surber threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns for the Skyhawks; twice scoring in the fourth quarter, coach Jason Simpson opted to kick extra points rather than attempt two-point conversions.
The Tigers finish nonconference play with a 3-1 record, entering a bye week before resuming action against Charlotte on Oct. 3 after wins over UNLV and Arkansas State.
