DE Marcus Davenport Announces Retirement After Release From Bears
Davenport asked for his release after one game and retired following nine NFL seasons, with injuries limiting his career to 25 sacks.
Marcus Davenport, a 30-year-old veteran defensive end, has retired after nine seasons in the NFL following his season debut with the Chicago Bears in Sunday's 23-12 victory over the New York Jets.
According to NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Davenport requested his release from the Bears' 16-man practice squad on Monday, October 5, motivating the team's decision to process the transaction.
A 2018 first-round pick by the New Orleans Saints, Davenport concludes his career with 25 sacks, 166 tackles, and seven forced fumbles in 78 games. The UTSA alum also played for the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions.
During his lone game, Davenport recorded one tackle and generated one pressure across 12 defensive snaps, earning poor Pro Football Focus grades of 44.2 overall. The Bears processed his release on Monday, October 5.
Chicago Bears edge-rusher Shemar Turner, a 2025 second-round pick, nears the end of his 21-day practice window while on the physically unable to perform list, positioning the team to restore full depth at the position. Cap space remains roughly $7.3 million.
