Manisha Bhanwala reaches World wrestling ch’ships final
On Thursday, Indian wrestler Manisha Bhanwala reached the 59kg final at the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, positioning herself to become India's first women's world champion.
After returning from the Asian Games without a medal in 57kg, Manisha shifted to the 59kg category and intensified training at Chhotu Ram Akhada in Rohtak under coach Mandeep Singh.
She defeated Canadian bronze medallist Laurence Beauregard, Mongolian Olympian Bolortuya Khurelkhuu, and Kazakhstan's Altyn Shagayeva to secure her path to the gold medal bout.
Pan-American champion Abigail Nette meets Manisha in Friday's final, as teammates Neelam Sirohi and Kajal Dhochak secured silver medals earlier this week.
Manisha's performance represents the country's fourth medal at the championships, following Indian wrestler Sujeet Kalkal's loss in the 65kg quarterfinals to Tajikistan's Abdulmazhid Kudiev.
