Man dies after bungalow destroyed in suspected gas explosion in Buckinghamshire
Police said the man in his 60s died after a blast that almost destroyed a bungalow and prompted a coronial investigation.
On Thursday, August 13, Thames Valley Police confirmed that a man in his 60s died in hospital following a suspected gas explosion that destroyed his bungalow on Cobb Hall Road in Newton Longville on Sunday, August 9.
Emergency services, including Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, responded shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday to the blast and fire, which prompted the evacuation of more than 30 nearby homes to ensure public safety.
Residents described hearing a loud bang miles away, with one witness calling the incident "very scary" and noting the home was "almost completely demolished." A Doberman dog was rescued from the debris.
Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Philip Turner-Robson said the incident was a "tragic development," while Thames Valley Police and the Health and Safety Executive jointly manage a coronial investigation into the explosion's cause.
Buckingham and Bletchley MP Callum Anderson described blast footage as "deeply distressing," praising support from the Newton Longville Parish Council, The Crooked Billet pub, and a GoFundMe appeal launched for those affected.
