Man who stabbed Glasgow neighbour in parking space row jailed
Stephen McAulay stabbed his neighbour multiple times after a parking dispute, causing life-changing injuries and receiving a 7.5-year sentence, the judge said intoxication played a role.
- On Tuesday at the High Court in Edinburgh, Stephen McAulay was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for stabbing a neighbour multiple times on May 13 last year.
- A dispute over a parking space led to Stephen McAulay returning armed to Moorfoot Street, Carntyne, after text messages exchanged following an earlier confrontation with James Duncan, crane operator.
- Court records detail that James Duncan required emergency surgery to a chest wound and suffered significant loss of vision to one eye, which Lord Young called `These are truly life changing injuries`.
- The judge rejected claims of self-defence and found Stephen McAulay went looking for his victim with a knife, warning, `The consequence for him will be a period of custody but also he will miss the birth of his child`.
- Looking beyond the sentence, the judge said the attack appeared driven by intoxication and 'loss of face' and Ross Yuill called arming himself "inexplicable" while noting McAulay was sorry.
