Man legally named ‘Santa Claus’ arrested in child predator sting
Police say the 75-year-old man used a dating app to arrange a meeting with an undercover detective posing as a 15-year-old boy.
A 75-year-old man legally named Santa Claus was arrested June 26 in Kenner on charges of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with a juvenile after using a dating application to contact an undercover detective posing as a 15-year-old boy.
The Kenner Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division ICAC/Cyber Crimes Unit conducted an undercover operation over the weekend targeting people accused of attempting to exploit children online, resulting in 11 arrests, 10 outstanding warrants and 37 criminal charges.
Investigators allege Claus discussed engaging in sexual acts with the undercover detective before arranging an in-person meeting, where detectives arrested him without incident; police noted his physical appearance indicated he took on a Santa Claus persona.
Claus was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center with bond set at $20,000 on each charge; Police Chief Keith Conley warned that such defendants pose a danger to children on social media and gaming platforms.
