Man killed by tiger may have had medical records breached by NHS staff
Two ambulance staff members are suspected of improper access, and the trust has reported the case to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
On Friday, Yorkshire Ambulance Service Trust launched an investigation after two staff members allegedly accessed 24-year-old William Chapman's medical records without a legitimate reason following his death at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Chapman died last Saturday from "multiple traumatic injuries" after entering the Land of the Tigers enclosure at the Doncaster attraction, an inquest opening on Thursday confirmed.
Proactive internal audits uncovered the potential breach, prompting the trust to report the matter to the Information Commissioner's Office as it investigates the individuals' actions.
Keeping Chapman's family informed remains a priority, with the trust providing specialist trauma support to those affected while the investigation continues.
Nearly 3,000 data breach cases have been investigated by the NHS since 2021, reflecting broader security concerns as the health service faces increased scrutiny regarding staff accessing patient records without authorization.
