Man Dies in M6 Crash After Car Driven Wrong Way Down Motorway
A man in his 50s died after driving the wrong way on the M6 and crashing into a Toyota Corolla, leaving two men seriously injured, police said.
- On Sunday at around 9.33pm, a Vauxhall Astra and a Toyota Corolla collided on the southbound M6 motorway near Charnock Richard, killing the Astra driver, a man in his 50s.
- Minutes earlier, Lancashire Police received a report of the Astra travelling the wrong way and officers believe it may have been in a damage-only crash on Blackpool Road in Preston at around 9.15pm.
- The Corolla's driver and passenger, both men in their 40s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries as two of three northbound carriageway lanes closed and the southbound carriageway remained shut, causing delays of 100 minutes between junctions 27 and 28.
- Lancashire Police say the investigation is in its early stages, with officers conducting investigative enquiries at the scene while asking the public to avoid speculation out of respect for the victim's family.
- Officers appealed for witnesses and dashcam owners to call 101 or email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk, quoting log 1162 of October 26 to assist enquiries.
