Man Fleeing ICE Officers in Florida Is Struck and Killed by Tractor Trailer, Police Say
Four occupants fled on foot after an ICE and Homeland Security Investigations encounter, and one was killed when he ran into a tractor-trailer, officials said.
- On Tuesday, a 28-year-old man died near State Road 16 and Green Acres Road in St. Augustine, Florida, after running into the path of a tractor trailer while fleeing an encounter with Homeland Security Investigations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
- Four occupants of a vehicle fled a gas station parking lot during the encounter, Florida Highway Patrol said. One person ran "across State Road 16 and into the path of the tractor trailer," while the 64-year-old truck driver "immediately stopped and attempted to render aid to the victim."
- Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic fatality, though officials confirmed they were not involved in the initial encounter. Neither Immigration and Customs Enforcement nor the Department of Homeland Security has commented on the incident.
