Man dies after being pulled from waters at Hawaii beach
- Mathew Tusitala, 30, from Kapaa, died at the hospital on April 12, 2025, after being rescued from Lydgate Beach Park.
- First responders were dispatched around 10:45 a.m. After reports indicated a swimmer was struggling in the water.
- Five good Samaritans assisted Tusitala in the water, while a lifeguard brought him unresponsive to the shore.
- Emergency crews performed high-performance CPR, using a Lucas Device, before transferring Tusitala to Wilcox Medical Center.
- Kauai Fire Department, Ocean Safety Bureau, American Medical Response, and Kauai Police Department responded; an autopsy will determine cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
